[MATHLINK] Postdoc or PhD position on Learning Sciences and Technology for Math Learning - Saarland Informatics Campus (due Feb 24)

Hello all — I'm looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher (approx. 2 years but flexible) or PhD Student (3 years or more) to join my newly-established group focusing on learning sciences and technology research in mathematics at Saarland University, Germany. You will join a growing group to conduct self-directed research projects within the lab’s broader focus areas below:

- Designing for and supporting student learning of 21st century skills and adaptive expertise (e.g., self-regulated learning) using AI-based math learning technologies (e.g., Intelligent Tutoring Systems)
- Using emerging technologies to design and develop engaging learning activities (e.g., educational games) in mathematics
- Applying learning analytics and data mining approaches to investigate cognitive and other aspects of human learning and its processes 
- Co-designing innovating learning strategies and technologies with students in primary and secondary schools, school teachers, and parents

The focus and details of research projects will be discussed and determined after employment, based on the candidate’s qualifications and interests. It is possible and encouraged to pursue original research ideas in related areas and there is a lot of flexibility in research topics. Collaborations with other research groups are possible, encouraged, and supported. This position comes with 4 hours of teaching load per week (which includes mentoring students). Research activities within the university will be conducted in English. Knowledge of the German language would be useful but not required. The start date is flexible; we are happy to discuss and set a start date that works best for the candidate.


Job Requirements and Responsibilities:

- Design an develop learning technologies and activities using participatory design approaches with stakeholders
- Plan and conduct user studies with students, teachers, and parents
- Plan and conduct classroom-based experiments with teachers and students
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data on student learning, learning processes, perception, engagement, and emotion
- Conduct data mining and learning analytics research to understand human leanirng
- Write scientific papers for conferences/journals and present findings to a broader range of audience
- Mentor student assistants in the lab and teach a small seminar course (optional)
