Post-Doc position in the Laboratory for the Psychology of Child Development and Education (Paris)

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher for the duration of 36 months on a project investigating the boundary conditions of conceptual spaces in a tri-national collaborative project. The French part of the project is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR).

The topographical structure underlying the representations of conceptual knowledge remains vividly debated. This project aims to delineate the conditions that define the topography of conceptual knowledge, in particular its flexibility. Two of the main questions are whether or not conceptual knowledge is spatially organized and how different cortical sites (parietal cortex, hippocampus) interact during learning and recall of new concepts. The project investigates these questions in healthy adults combining behavioral and functional neuroimaging.

Candidates should bring – before all – enthusiasm and passion for investigating neurocognitive factors of numerical cognition and conceptual knowledge in more general. They should have a master’s degree in psychology, cognitive science or a related field. Candidates are expected to have acquired a PhD in psychology, cognitive neuroscience or a related field. Experience in fMRI methods and coding skills (e.g. Matlab, R, python) are beneficial. French language skills are a plus but no prerequisite.

If interested, please email

- a CV (including publications)

- a letter of motivation (including research interests and relevant background)

- names of two referees

to Dr. André Knops (andre.knops at u-paris.fr), quoting “Post-doc ANR” in the email subject. Applications will be examined until the position is filled. Starting date is January 2024 or earlier.

What we offer

The successful candidate will integrate the Laboratory for the Psychology of Child Development and Education ([https://www.lapsyde.com](https://www.lapsyde.com/nos-projets)). Located in the Sorbonne, in the heart of Paris, LaPsyDÉ gathers researchers in Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, as well as experts in the field of Education. LaPsyDÉ has access to neuroimaging facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art 3T scanner. Salary will be around ~30,000€ per year after taxes, including basic health care and social security.

The project is part of an international grant, involving a PhD student at Lapsydé as well as partners at the University of York (S. Goebel & T. Hartley) and the University of Potsdam (M. Fischer). Silke Goebel and Tom Hartley will focus on developmental aspects while Martin Fischer will focus on the question whether the organizational principles of conceptual knowledge transgress to the motor level. The project provides opportunities to exchange between units.

Best regards,

André Knops
