Position Title: Research Fellow
Reporting Relationship: Founder
Department: Program Innovation & Research
Organization Description: JUMP Math is a Canadian registered charity with a global reach that is dedicated to helping people realize their full potential in math. Position Summary: JUMP Math intends to establish a new role of Research Fellow within the Program Innovation & Research team reporting directly to JUMP Math Founder Dr. John Mighton, PhD, O.C. and is seeking a postdoctoral research scholar to build research partnerships for JUMP Math with Canadian and US universities and to develop and implement a plan for collecting more evidence of the efficacy of JUMP Math’s approach to teaching mathematics for K-8 students and teachers. Experience translating research findings into concrete and actionable resources for educators would be helpful for the position.
Location: This role is intended to be mainly remote but the scholar may be required to occasionally attend in person meetings at the JUMP Math offices or other locations in the Greater Toronto Area.
Annual Stipend: $60,000. This role is for 12-24 months with benefits.
Please Note: This position is intended to be partially funded through a MITACS Elevate Postdoctoral Award. The successful candidate will be paid on an hourly basis to participate in the writing of an application for the MITACS Elevate award. The annual stipend and contract is contingent on a successful application to MITACS and will begin when the funding is successfully awarded. Key Accountabilities:
* Work with psychologists, cognitive scientists, and educational researchers to design studies of JUMP Math (from a preschool to first year university level),
* Planning, scheduling, and tracking of research activities;
* Recruit and coordinate participants;
* Collection, storage, and protection of research data.
* Maintain participant confidentiality as needed;
* Analyse data from JUMP research projects;
* Disseminate findings from research studies;
* Manage resource and time contracts.
Skills:
* Familiarity with statistical methods suitable for analyzing large data sets and randomized control trials.
* Proficiency with statistical software and data analysis tools
* knowledge of Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes, informed consent requirements, and patient privacy laws such as HIPAA.
* Experience writing and administering research grants;
* Good verbal and written communication skills (i.e. the ability to convey complex information in an understandable and personable manner)
Personal Attributes:
* Keen eye for detail
* Aptitude for research
* ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges.
Education and Experience (minimums):
* Ph.D. in learning sciences, applied developmental psychology, or developmental cognitive science;
* Previous experience working with community partners;
* Experience translating research findings into concrete and actionable resources for educators
* At least three relevant publications in refereed journals
