Dear Colleagues,
We are currently conducting a meta-analysis on deductive logical reasoning and mathematics achievement. We are seeking unpublished manuscripts, working papers, preprints, papers in press, theses, conference papers or posters, or any other form of grey literature or unpublished data related to this topic.
Inclusion criteria:
* Pearson correlations between deductive logic (e.g., categorical syllogisms, conditional reasoning, transitive reasoning) and math achievement (e.g., arithmetic, geometry, statistics, general math ability)
* For experimental datasets, effect sizes will only be included if they were not subject to the influence of any experimental manipulation (e.g., pre-test of any group, post-test of control groups)
* Both cross-sectional and longitudinal data are welcome
Exclusion criteria:
* Effect sizes related to inductive reasoning (e.g., analogical reasoning, generalization)
* Effect sizes based on subjective measures (e.g., self-rated or other-rated measures)
* Data where over 50% of participants have special education needs
Specifically, we request the following information (if available):
* Pearson correlation between the variables of interest
* Sample size
* Measure characteristics: name of measure, representative sample items
* Sample characteristics: age, grade, proportion of male participants, country of sample
* Study characteristics: year of study/dataset, concurrent or longitudinal design
If you have any work or data on this topic, please send the relevant information to yipcch at connect.hku.hk<mailto:yipcch at connect.hku.hk> by 11 April 2025. All contributions suitable for inclusion will be properly cited in our publication.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the email above. We are happy to answer any questions. For more details, please visit our PROSPERO pre-registration at https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/view/CRD42023434004.
Thank you for your time. We are very grateful for any contribution.
Kind regards,
Charles Yip
