Dear MCLS,
UW-Madison's Fractions & Algebra Project is looking for families with children who are in Grade 6 during the 2025-2026 school year. We invite students who are living in the United States to participate in our online Zoom study.
Study participation involves seven (7) online study sessions with a member of our research team over the next three years. We will meet with students twice during the winter of 6th grade and then once during the spring of 6th grade, the fall of 7th grade, the spring of 7th grade, the fall of 8th grade, and the spring of 8th grade. Each session will last approximately 90 minutes. Students will be asked to do math problems and answer questions about their thinking.
As a thank you for participation, your family will receive a $15 electronic Amazon gift card following the completion of each session, for a total of $105 across the 3 years.
Participation in our studies helps us add to a growing body of knowledge about students’ thinking and learning, and students often enjoy participating, too! Our goal is to include participants with a wide range of backgrounds and different math experiences, abilities, and interest.
More information about the Fractions & Algebra Project is available on our website, https://fracalg.wcer.wisc.edu/.
Sessions can be scheduled by emailing your interest to: mathlab at wcer.wisc.edu. We have times available throughout the afternoons, evening, and weekends, and we can be flexible to arrange a time that works well for your family.
Additionally, please feel free to share this information with friends and family members who might be interested! This research is approved by the University of Wisconsin IRB under the direction of Drs. Percival Matthews, Ana Stephens, Alex Viegut, Martha Alibali, and Dan Bolt.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
