Dear MCLS Colleagues,

I hope this message finds you well.

My name is Nicoletta Perini, and I am currently doing a PhD at Loughborough University - Department of Mathematics Education.

We are currently conducting a meta-analysis on associations of number order processing with mathematical skills.
As part of this research, I am striving to include both published and unpublished studies to minimize publication bias and enhance the comprehensiveness of the analysis. Therefore, we are seeking unpublished manuscripts, working papers, preprints, papers in press, theses, conference papers or posters, or any other form of grey literature or unpublished data related to this topic.

Below are the inclusion criteria we are considering:

POPULATION:

  * We will limit the results to empirical studies with participants with no neurodevelopmental disorders.
  * We will consider empirical studies with both child and adults.
STUDIES:

  * The study reports original empirical findings.
  * The study includes at least one measure from a numerical order verification/judgement task. In the numerical order judgement/verification task, a sequence of three/two one-digit/multi-digit numbers are presented (e.g., 1 7 5) and participants have to decide whether these numbers are in the correct order.
  * The study additionally includes at least one measure of mathematical skills.
  * The study includes at least one standardized effect size (correlation) of the strength and the direction of the bivariate association between measures of number ordering and mathematical skills. The study also includes the sample size for this effect.
  * The study is in English.

We will exclude:

  * Studies involving only clinical populations.
  * Studies that are not in English.
  * Studies that do not use a number ordering judgement task to assess number order processing.

If available, we kindly request the following information:

  * Bibliographic information (author, title, year, publication status)
  * Population descriptors (sample size, school year, age, country, gender, SES)
  * Type of study (cross-sectional study, longitudinal study)
  * Outcomes (measures on mathematical skills, number ordering, the format of the number ordering task, reliability of measures)
  * Results (correlation between measures of mathematical skills and number order processing)

If you have any work or data on this topic, please send the relevant information to n.perini2 at lboro.ac.uk by 15 September 2025. All contributions suitable for inclusion will be properly cited in our publication.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the email above. We are happy to answer any questions. For more details, please visit our OFS pre-registration at https://archive.org/details/osf-registrations-kur8a-v1.

Thank you for your time. We are very grateful for any contribution.

Warm regards,
Nicoletta Perini
