[MATHLINK] Postdoctoral Position at Carleton University

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in mathematical learning and assessment at Carleton University in the Department of Cognitive Science. The anticipated start date is September 1st, 2025, although earlier is also possible. The position is for two years. The PDF will be expected to work on campus but there will be opportunities for working from home.
Department Background Information
The Department of Cognitive Science at Carleton University (located in Ottawa, Canada) enrols approximately 600 undergraduate and 40 graduate students in B.Cog. Sc, M.Cog.Sc, and Ph.D. degrees. The department is highly interdisciplinary, drawing from Psychology, Linguistics, Philosophy, Computer Science, and Neuroscience. Faculty and staff are collegial and enjoy collaboration. Research Project Overview
The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Dr. Jo-Anne LeFevre, Dr. Rebecca Merkley, and Dr. Heather Douglas, on several projects involving early mathematical assessment and learning. Projects are described at www.carleton.ca/mathlab/ and www.aimcollective.ca. Half of the funding for the postdoctoral position comes from MITACS funding sponsored by Vretta Inc., an educational technology company. The collaboration is focussed on the development, testing, and ongoing research into a digital assessment of numeracy skills for Canadian schools.
The postdoctoral fellow will help to manage a network of researchers and education partners, so knowledge of communication tools is essential. Experience in team settings is also important. The PDF will be based in Ottawa but may be required to travel within Canada for certain activities.
Salary and Benefits
The postdoctoral fellow will be offered a salary of at least $70,000 Cdn per annum (including mandatory benefits), with the additional possibility of opting into an extended health and dental benefit plan. Funds will be available for relevant training courses (through the collective agreement) and for attending and presenting at one or two conferences per year.
Position Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent of this position, under the direction of Dr. LeFevre, will be responsible for supporting the research activities of several projects, including but not limited to the following core responsibilities:

  *   Liaison with Vretta and coordinate intern activities (with one other intern)
  *   Analyzing data, writing journal articles
  *   Supervising undergraduate and graduate research assistants

  *   Collaborating with partners across Canada in school boards and school divisions, to facilitate the development of early math assessment tools
  *   Collaborating with international partners
  *   Providing leadership and organizational expertise
  *   Generating new research ideas
  *   Collecting data with children in schools or other settings; managing and guiding research assistants in multiple projects.

Job Requirements

  *   Essential qualifications include a completed Ph.D. (or expected completion before the starting date) in Cognitive Science, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology or a related field, as well as excellent writing, communication, and advanced statistical skills. Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of the literature in mathematical cognition is also very important, although candidates with expertise in related areas (e.g., reading development, educational interventions) may be considered.
  *   Although not essential, knowledge of the education system in one or more Canadian provinces and/or a degree or qualification in Education (e.g., B. Ed.) would be desirable.
